WAIMEA CANYON & KOKEE ADVENTURE
In the heart of Kaua‘i’s rugged west, the earth opens into a masterpiece—the vast Waimea Canyon, painted in crimson and emerald layers that speak of ages past. Here, nature’s artistry reaches toward the sky at Kōke‘e Lookout, where the Napali Coast stretches into a dreamlike horizon.
Whether you soar above it on a helicopter tour from O‘ahu, pair the canyon’s grandeur with the thrill of mountain tubing, or journey on a private adventure from Līhu‘e with family and friends, each path unveils a new chapter in this island’s story. The curves of the canyon whisper of ancient rivers, while the cool upland breezes carry the scent of native forests. From sweeping viewpoints to hidden valleys, these tours invite you to step into Kaua‘i’s living canvas—an epic of stone, sky, and sea that leaves every traveler spellbound.

Why Visit Waimea Canyon?
Known as “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” Waimea Canyon is a breathtaking natural wonder carved over millions of years by rivers and volcanic activity. Its sweeping vistas reveal dramatic cliffs painted in deep reds, earthy browns, and lush greens, creating a vibrant tapestry that changes with the light of the day.
From the canyon rim, you can witness waterfalls cascading into hidden valleys, hear the rustle of native forests, and feel the cool highland breeze that carries the spirit of Kaua‘i’s wild beauty. It’s a view that stirs the soul and leaves an unforgettable impression on all who stand at its edge.
Journey to Kōke‘e Lookout
Visiting Waimea Canyon isn’t just about the scenery—it’s about the journey. Whether you explore it on a scenic drive, a guided tour, or an adventurous hike, each path unveils a new perspective of the island’s rugged west. Combine your trip with a stop at Kōke‘e Lookout to take in sweeping views of the Napali Coast, where emerald cliffs drop dramatically into the deep blue Pacific.
Together, these experiences offer an intimate connection with Kaua‘i’s geological history, cultural heritage, and awe-inspiring landscapes, making Waimea Canyon a must-see for any traveler.
Waimea Canyon FAQs
-
Waimea Canyon is approximately 14 miles long, 1 mile wide, and over 3,600 feet deep.
-
What Locations Will We Visit On This Tour?
In addition to the stunning Waimea Canyon, this tour highlights Hanapepe Valley lookout, Queen Victoria's profile, Coco Palms Grove, the town of Waimea, and Fort Elizabeth Koloa town. -
Is this wheelchair accessible?
Yes! Most of the viewpoints and trail areas are easily wheelchair accessible. Check with your guide if you are unsure of any particular area. Please note that while our coaches are not equipped with lifts, we can arrange them for you upon request. -
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable attire and shoes. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are recommended. Bring a light sweater or jacket to Waimea Canyon. You should wear sunscreen and bring a camera. -
What About Food?
Every tour is different in this regard. Our shorter tours will be done before noon, so you will just need to pack water and some snacks. Typically, we do not provide food due to the variety of unique dietary needs and food preferences. However, all tours include tasty snacks and/or seasonal local fruit. Our vehicles will have extra drinking water and coolers for guests to use. For most of our hikes, you will also have the option of pre-ordering “grindz” (food [Hawaiian pidgin English]) to go from an “ono” (delicious, tasty) local establishment. -
What To Know Before You Go?
You must be able to walk on unpaved, uneven, steep and possibly muddy terrain. The temperature here can be 10-20 degrees colder than at sea level, especially with a wind chill, so you should wear layered clothing and comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes. Price listed does not include visitor entrance & parking charge. This fee goes to help support and maintain our precious state parks and will vary depending on the size of your group. It can be paid by credit card at self-service kiosks in select state park parking lots. -
What Equipment Will I Need?
Equipment needs depend on the tour you book. Within 24 hours of purchasing your hike, a trip-specific list of recommended equipment, aka “gear list,” will be included in your confirmation email. If you don’t have something on the gear list, don’t worry! Let your guide know, we will find a way to make it work (we have a stockpile of “lender gear”). Your guide will carry a well-stocked first aid kit, extra sunscreen, extra water, and bug spray, and hike specific safety equipment as needed. Please keep in mind that the weather on Kaua’i is localized and changes often. Additionally, the temperature is generally about 15 degrees colder in Kōkeʻe and Waimea Canyon State Park(s) than on the coast. For this reason, we request that you heed the gear list and do your best to prepare accordingly. -
What Happens If The Weather Is Bad?
Rain is the reason the garden isle is so lush; it often provides dynamic picture taking opportunities and blesses us with an ample supply of rainbows! Tours operate rain or shine, except in the most extreme cases. Keep in mind that just because it’s raining where you are, doesn’t mean it will be raining where your tour will be, and vice-versa. The good news: fun can be had regardless, there is still plenty to see and experience regardless of the islands mood! Additionally, rain showers are often localized and usually do not last long. We encourage you to keep an open mind and a positive attitude regarding rain. Our guides are better than most at studying and predicting island weather but, alas, we are not full-on weather genies, yet. Rescheduling to another day is often a fool’s errand as the weather on this island is notoriously unpredictable. Leading up to your tour your guide will update you on the weather situation and tour possibilities. If your tour is in jeopardy of being cancelled, we will contact you as soon as possible. If we decide to cancel your tour (this is rare), you will have the option to reschedule for another day or be given a full refund. -
Why Hire A Guide?
We don’t want you to worry while you’re on vacation! We will keep you safe, on the trail, and prepared with the appropriate equipment. Our guides know Kaua’i intimately and are trained to handle first aid and other safety concerns common on local trails. Beyond that, our guides will enrich your experience by teaching you about local history, flora and fauna — and, of course, by picking the perfect trail for your group. It’s our job and passion to make sure you have the best possible experience while on Kaua’i!
